NEW Ubuntu images on Intel processors

Edoardo-barbieri reports the release of new images available for Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server; released jointly by Canonical and Intel. A link to the Canonical press statement is provided, along with a quick summary of why this news is of interest if we're using Elkhart Lake, Tiker Lake, Ice Lake, or Alder Lake S and P processors. More links are provided for additional details.

Cloud-init Release Schedule

James Falcon provides the release schedule for Cloud-init; he warns us these dates are targets which may be amended slightly as required. We are told any changes will be announced on this thread and on the cloud-init mailing list.

Anbox Cloud 1.16.0 has been released

Ruth Fuchss reports the release of Anbox Cloud 1.16.0 on behalf of the Anbox Cloud team. We are given a link to the component versions, as well as a description of the various new extensive features and improvements found in this release. We are told there are no known issues, given a list of bug fixes, plus given links to upgrade Anbox Cloud or an Anbox Cloud Appliance.

Ubuntu snap updates will soon be able to be held temporarily and indefinitely

Paul Hill writes that "Canonical has announced that it's now possible to pause or stop automatic updating of snap packages on Ubuntu". We are told the snapd package is currently in the edge channel, plus the commands that are required to utilize this change. Command examples are provided.

KDE Prepares Push For Its New Goals: Accessibility, Environmentally Sustainable, Automate

Michael Larabel writes that at the KDE annual developer conference Akademy, the community goals were set: "software accessibility, environmentally sustainable software, and automating internal processes". We are reminded of a talk later this month to further these goals, with links for details on the talk set for 28 November 2022.

Canonical Releases New Ubuntu Linux Kernel Security Updates to Fix 16 Vulnerabilities

Marius Nestor writes about the recent new Linux kernels released by Canonical for all supported LTS releases of Ubuntu that fix various CVEs. We are given details of the CVEs fixed, who found the bugs and how they could be used maliciously to impact unpatched systems. Marius tells us the versions of the kernels that contain the patches, and reminds us to upgrade asap and reboot.

Windows Subsystem for Linux Has Reached v1.0 Stable Release

Sourav Rudra reminds us what WSL is, when it was released as preview status, and reports that the 'preview' no longer applies, with the product now labeled stable. We are given a short preview of the WSL history, with many links provided should we wish to explore more.
