Focal Fossa (20.04 LTS) Final Freeze

Brian Murray, on behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team, announces Focal has reached final freeze. Brian relates the criteria for any packages and bug fixes henceforth to be considered for acceptance in the release. Once the RC images are spun up it is requested of the community to test to insure "another uneventful release next week".

Mir 1.8.0 Release

William Wold (wmww) reports the release of Mir 1.8.0. Highlights include focused HiDPI support for Wayland, portability fixes, adds a new “Mir Shell” login to the greeter, several enhancements, and eight bug fixes.

Targeted at the mid-range market, Elizabeth provides some pictures, plus details of the machine as well as various links to technical overviews. We're told it runs Ubuntu 19.10, but will also use Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, supporting Secure Execution for both LinuxONE III models.

AMDVLK 2020.Q2.1 Released With AMD Renoir Support

Michael Larabel writes about AMD's update to the open-source AMDVLK Vulkan Linux driver. He notes the support for Renoir hardware, updates for Vulkan 1.2.135, and other improvements; that support new hardware. We are provided a GitHub link if we need more details.

LibreOffice 6.4.3 Released with More Than 50 Fixes

Marius Nestor alerts us to the maintenance update that is LibreOffice 6.4.3 for all supported platforms. We are told 58 bugs have been fixed, and reminded that 6.4 is not recommended for enterprise deployments, however LibreOffice 6.3.6 will be coming out very soon.
