Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS released
Adam Conrad on behalf of the Ubuntu Release Team tells us Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS has been officially released for Desktop, Server and Cloud products, including flavors with LTS releases. 18.04.2 has HWE (Hardware enablement stack) enabled for newer hardware and includes a new Raspberry Pi 3 image for Ubuntu Server. A list of Ubuntu flavors with 18.04.2 plus a plethora of urls is provided in the article.

Canonical Apologizes for Boot Failure in Ubuntu 18.10 & 18.04, Fix Available Now
Marius Nestor reports that in addressing a Linux kernel regression Canonical releases a new kernel update for the 4.18 series. In the linked USN-3878-3 is noted Canonical's apology for the inconvenience. Marios explains the nature of the regression and advises those affected to update your kernel packages immediately to linux-image 4.18.0-15.16 on Ubuntu 18.10, or to linux-image 4.18.0-15.16~18.04.1 (HWE enabled) on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. KDE Frameworks 5.55 Released With Android Notifications, KWayland Fixes
Michael Larabel writes on the monthly update to KDE Frameworks 5.55. Highlights in this QT5 library include added icons, Android build fixes/improvements, support for Android notifications, fixes in KWayland, and added AsciiDoc support. Other fixes and improvements are detailed in the linked KDE.org release announcement.

Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Working To Be Released This Week With New Hardware Enablement Stack
Michael Larabel reports that after the boot failures in last week's update, Ubuntu developers are working on getting out the 18.04.2 LTS point release this week. It will ship with Hardware Enablement "HWE" stack, with a provided link on bugs resolved in Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS. Ubuntu 19.04 "Disco Dingo" meanwhile remains under development for expected debut on 18 April. The Ubuntu 19.04 feature freeze is coming up next week on 21 February, while the UI freeze is set for 14 March.

KDE Plasma 5.15 Released With Wayland Improvements, Fixes To "Annoying Problems"

RadeonSI Picks Up Primitive Culling With Async Compute For Performance Wins
Michael Larabel advises of the twenty-six patches provided by Linux driver developer Marek Olšák. Performance improvements are the result of using async compute to do primitive culling. The patches are directed to GCN 1.1 through Radeon VII cards on professional/workstation graphics. Depending on feedback the code could be enabled for all GPUs and a possible whitelisting for games optimization. Michael provides a link to the patch series.

AMDGPU DC Gets Fixes For Seamless Boot, Disappearing Cursor On Raven Ridge
Michael Larabel reports on the latest thirty-five patches for the AMDGPU DRM kernel driver. These patches provide fixes for the black screen resuming issue on Kaveri APUs through Hawaii dGPUs, the disappearing cursor on Raven Ridge systems, fixes around the multi-plane commit support, and fixes for the new seamless boot functionality. Mesa 19.0-RC4 Released With More Fixes
Michael Larabel advises on Mesa 19.0-RC4 release that resolves the scripting failure of the RC3 release. Added in Mesa 19.0-RC4 are graphics driver fixes as well as other random fixes. However, with about a dozen bugs still open it is expected that there will be a RC5 next week. If the blocker bugs get resolved, it is expected to have a Mesa 19.0 release in about two weeks. Proton 3.16-7 Updates Against DXVK 0.96, New FAudio
Michael Larabel writes of the new update to proton that adds DXVK 0.96 support for Vulkan and better audio support from the FAudio 19.02 release. Proton 3.16-7 also has several fixes in some Direct3D 9 games, improved controller behavior, a new run-time option, better support for old SteamWorks SDKs, and various other fixes.
