About Me

Linux user since 2004 (Registered Linux User #458827, Ubuntu User #19076). I'm interested in computer history, user support and audio/video production.

Very technical but not a programmer, I try to make my experience and knowledge available to people who require help. This allows me to get complete perspective of how the distribution is used by different people, as well as discover different projects and collect opinions on user experience. Highly motivated to learn and support Ubuntu. I prefer engaging in a conversation with knowledgeable individuals as opposed to going through documentation.

My forte is in GNOME, media production, testing and QA. I am currently trying to concentrate on community involvement, server competency, and a solid understanding of X.org. By communicating with developers and helping users troubleshooting audio issues, my understanding of the Linux audio subsystem and the various audio projects involved has increased. I am interested in improving the state of video editing software for Linux and provide feedback on protects like Cinellera, Lumiera and Pitivi.

I try to stay up to date on bugs users of Ubuntu are facing. I am involved in reporting, debugging, confirming, and general triage of bugs. As a member of the Ubuntu budsquad and bugcontrol teams, usb-creator is the the package I've decided to adopt and keep an eye on. My work-flow process when it comes to bugs is finding previously reported issues, testing proposed resolutions, and finally triaging the bug once it has enough information for developers.

I can help others effectively report, debug, confirm, subscribe and triage bugs. See the Custom "Ubuntu" Google Search which is helpful for searching bugs, threads and blogs relating to Ubuntu (contact me to add a site to the search index).

As the Ubuntu user base grows every day, the group effort will make Ubuntu a better distribution.

In the next few years I would like our communities develop the following:

  • Ubuntu Hardware Database

  • FOSS Human voices (TTS and Accessibility)
  • Better Mozilla integration (Including Thunderbird by default)
  • Wacom configuration front-end (GNOME3 will have this)

Certifications

  • Digital Technical Production - College Certificate
  • LPI - Linux Professional Institute
  • UCP - Ubuntu Certified Professional

Testimonials

David is a relentless community contributor. Although he is a Canonical employee at Support, he goes way beyond any of his duties by actively engaging the local community, filing bug reports and advocating Ubuntu user to anyone. David does not stand around watching and chatting, he MAKES THINGS HAPPEN. Be careful what you comment around him, if it makes sense and takes Ubuntu further, he'll do it Smile :) -- FabianRodriguez

David has been of awesome help in organizing some of the latest events in Ubuntu-Quebec. He's not afraid to step in and make things happen, and go the extra mile to make Ubuntu and our LoCo rock Smile :) -- mathieu-tl 2009-11-18 21:43:25

Is there anything you found missing from Ubuntu at this link? If so, PM David about what he did in it and he will update his past activities on it(He actually has some memory loss in what he did for the community :D). I am with Him for about an year and my interactions with him made me take some solid decisions and he guided me a lot in what I do. I support him fully in the present and for future for any steps he takes. Mohi Sep 17 16:32:11 UTC 2010
