Introduction

The New Jersey Team has been established in order to advocate and educate Linux users from the entire state of New Jersey (and surrounding states) about Ubuntu Linux and the Ubuntu "way."

As of 11/12/2006, OgMaciel gave control of the group to JoeTerranova.

Goals

  • Create one main place where users will be able to gather and share information about the distribution. This goal is the most important; once we have the infrastructure (at least the forum), the first step is discussing with the group and deciding what the group wants to pursue.
  • Initiate monthly face to face meetings at a pre-determined facility where users will be able to better interact and receive more support
  • Plan organized activities to socialize with the group and promote Ubuntu.

These events will probably be coordinated closely with the [http://ruslug.rutgers.edu Rutgers LUG]; while the Rutgers LUG includes non-Ubuntu users, they promote Ubuntu heavily, and are interested in working with the LoCo group on events. Events which both groups participate in will be general linux-friendly events, with a focus on the use of Ubuntu. Possible plans:

    • Linux LAN Party
    • IPOD Liberation party
    • Install-fests
  • Regrouping and Recruitment: The first step to any of these plans is an active and interested LoCo team. I've contacted former members, and received a few responses of interest thus far. The Rutgers LUG expressed that some of their team members would be interested in joining, and several NJIT colleagues of mine have expressed interest; at the moment, recruitment is occurring at the state college level, where interest is highest.
