= Mir License = Mir is considered a foundation of the cross-form-factor convergence story, and as such, Canonical wants to avoid platform fragmentation issues as experienced on other (mobile) platforms, e.g., Android. To this end, we license the actual server as GPLv3, thereby enforcing Mir's position in its role as a system-level service. However, to help GPU vendors and SOCs to add Mir driver support as easily as possible, we license the Mir development libraries (both client and server) under the less restrictive LGPLv3. |
