About Me

I am a 16 year old student from Vienna, Austria. Most of my time in front of the computer is spent with programming in C++, designing webpages, and playing around with Ubuntu packages. I am also interested in computer networks, cryptography and the development of games. I have been using GNU/Linux for more than 3 years now, and I strongly support free software.

My Work for Ubuntu

I have started using Ubuntu with 5.04 / Hoary, and with the start of the dapper release cycle I got interested in packaging. For Dapper I fixed around 60 unmet dependencies in universe, most of them because of a new gnustep version. If I find some free time I triage bugs in Malone, and I also review old bug reports to ensure they have the correct status. I also added a new column to the packaging candidates page, to make tracking the Debian status and existing packages easier.

I have not done much work between Dapper Feature Freeze and July 2006, primarily because I did a lot of programming this time, but I still looked out for any bugs or new upstream versions of my maintained packages, there was simply nothing to do (just to explain the gap in my regular contributions).

Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend UDS at Mountain View for 7.04 / Feisty Fawn, which meant that I have not been involved in any feature development for Feisty Fawn.

For Gutsy Gibbon, I plan to implement one of these (not yet written) specifications:

• Avahi Improvements: The usage of Avahi for Ubuntu 7.04 has certainly improved, but there are still some areas where services could be announced via mDNS (e.g. for network game discovery), and some other little things that would make the overall feeling better.

• Apple Interoperability: One of the most important things of popular software is their interoperability with other software. Ubuntu already does a good job interacting with Mac OS X and other stuff from Apple. But providing a better Out Of The Box experience, with some things improved (e.g. streaming to an Apple Airport Express from Ubuntu), would certainly convince some Mac users I know to consider switching to Ubuntu again.

• Nautilus Scripts Management: Provide a way to control which Nautilus scripts are activated from a graphical interface, possibly integrated with Nautilus itself. • Harddisk Encryption: Harddisk Encryption should be possible on setup, otherwise this is really complicated to do. The Debian installer has the needed support, but the [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionReportCryptsetup cryptsetup MIR] has been rejected, so it didn't get into Ubuntu. Also having this available for Ubiquity as well would be important.

• Virtualization on the Desktop: Making virtualization easy to use for everybody, e.g. implement a nice interface for [https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SeamlessVirtualization Seamless Virtualization] and maybe use a panel applet for showing current VM machine state (shutdown, paused, started).
