If you have a bug in the installer found on the "desktop" or "live" CD (the graphical installer), then please file that against the "ubiquity" package.

If you have a bug in the installer found on the "alternate", "server", or "install" CD (the text-based installer), then please file that against the "debian-installer" package in the first instance. It may be assigned to a more appropriate package later.

 * Implement Kickstart compatibility using new debconf preseeding feature in d-i.
  * should be a relatively simple translation job
 * Move from devfs and discover to udev and hotplug.
 * Support any new architectures being added to Ubuntu (ia64 is a candidate).
 * Support USB-stick installs; not everyone can manage with CD or netboot (and unfortunately the kernel doesn't fit on a floppy).
 * Ask all questions before the first reboot.
 * Fix bugs!

== Goals for Breezy ==

 * Develop a graphical front-end to d-i.
  * preferably build on the existing work that's been done on cdebconf-gtk
  * work out a way to hook custom UI widgets into debconf: glade, complete custom widgets or debconf callbacks or both
  * usability testing
  * cooperate with DesktopTeam, maybe HIGify?
 * write PartitionProber d-i component, which will find partitions from computer's hard disk(s) (and maybe other non-hotplugabble storage), for example windows C (and other) disks, linux and *bsd partitions from other distributions, etc...

Where to File Bugs

If you have a bug in the installer found on the "desktop" or "live" CD (the graphical installer), then please file that against the "ubiquity" package.

If you have a bug in the installer found on the "alternate", "server", or "install" CD (the text-based installer), then please file that against the "debian-installer" package in the first instance. It may be assigned to a more appropriate package later.

Goals and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Ubuntu installer at the quality of the last stable release or better.
  • Keep the Ubuntu installer in sync with the Debian installer as much as we can, and feed back relevant changes.
  • Develop new installer features, in cooperation with Debian and with the other groups using d-i.
  • Support users who have problems installing Ubuntu.
